    How religious is everyone here?

I'm fairly religious and a Lutheran.

I used to be and the comic has lightly touched on this issue -- My family has always been fairly devout Roman Catholic, but I started losing my faith way back in my 'teens.

There was an incident when I finally stood up to my dad and told him I wasn't going to attend church anymore, because I didn't believe in it. Sure, I took a lot from the values and principles that I had been taught by the faith, but anything otherwise was just mythology to me. He got angry and we had a fight, my room was trashed and I received several strokes from the business end of a belt. That was the day it did it for me.

If it works for people, that's cool. But when they start pressing their faith onto other people, that's when I get annoyed. Otherwise, I try to be as respectful as possible (as possible as a guy who makes fun of fat or suicidal people can be, I suppose).

Seriously? I am pretty much done. I mean when you grow up constantly hearing "God hate gays" and other scarier versions of that; when you finally come to terms with the fact you're gay, you just sort of stop. It's hard to just say "BAM I'm done!" I've grown less and less faithful over the past couple years till it's gotten to this point. The point of I just don't give a fuck anymore. But hey, if you're religious and believe, that's cool. Just don't cram it down my throat and try to convince me there a cure for "the gay."

I was baptised a Catholic, however I have become very open minded, and some of the things that you must follow as a Catholic I don't believe. "Gays are evil, repent, the one true God", I don't hate God not at all, but it seems his followers want things there way, but God gave us the power of free choice. Personally, when I have a child and one day comes up to say "dad I'm gay" I will love just the same.
I sometimes pray, when I'm in dire needs, but I don't go to church and I have never had a holy communion, so I'm in the middle in someway.

Is there a God or not ? Good fucking question. I don't believe in God. I don't think it's possible or even rational for that matter. But I respect people who do believe as long as they're open minded. And, about the people who shouts "God hates gay" and things like that, I'd like to think it doesn't happen a lot but I don't really know since here, in France, religion seems to be less important. I mean, I live in a city with 40 000 students and I'm pretty sure half of them are atheists. And it seems to be the same in the rest of the country. Anyway, in my own opinion, religions are one big joke. I still don't understand why everyone isn't laughing together.

Im not too religious..but i will stand by one things , and this goes along with the "God" thing... as my signature states "There are no Atheists in foxholes" I believe god is just a figure one looks to in order of hope , forgiveness and advice...but hey, who knows for sure?
They were not courageous because they did not feel fear; but because they fought through that fear to save a man who they did not know.

Bullet your signature reminded me of a song called Laughing With by Regina Spektor.

"No one laughs at God in a hospital, No one laughs at God in a war, No one’s laughing at God, When they’re starving or freezing or so very poor, No one laughs at God, When the doctor calls after some routine tests, No one’s laughing at God, When it’s gotten real late, And their kid’s not back from the party yet, No one laughs at God, When their airplane start to uncontrollably shake, No one’s laughing at God, When they see the one they love hand in hand with someone else, And they hope that they’re mistaken, No one laughs at God, When the cops knock on their door, And they say we got some bad news sir, No one’s laughing at God, When there’s a famine or fire or flood, But God can be funny, At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke, or, Or when the crazies say He hates us, And they get so red in the head you think they’re ‘bout to choke, God can be funny,, When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way, And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini, Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus, God can be so hilarious, Ha ha"

Reading this thread I get the whole Christian's are pushy vibe. And yea a lot of them are. I don;t mean to stereotype things but it seems that the Catholics, Baptists and Johvahs witnesses Tend to think that they've got the 'correct' views and everyone else is going to hell. They get pushy, cocky and generally annoying. I dislike this as much as anyone else that's one reason I find such comfort in the Lutheran church. They just get together to worship god and generally have a lot of pot luck dinners in the church basement. They seem to care less that your not Lutheran. Sure they try to spread the faith but if you want to become Catholic, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Methodist, Unaligned, or any other Denomination they don't mind. They're just happy that you found god in some way. The way it worked for you.

Hardip proposed a point about gays, that I've brought up with my youth group before. Our interpretation of the Bible and some thinking led us to the conclusion that if god made you straight stay straight, don't go messing around and then go over and say your gay. But the reverse is also true. If he made you gay stay gay. Don't go around and then decide your straight. Basically, be the way god intended you to be. Be as he made you.

"Basically, be the way god intended you to be. Be as he made you."

How about your parents slept together and it made you ? (We can talk science, evolution too ...)
