I noticed while going through the demographics of all the visitors to CUEK that 52% of all the visitors from the US were female. This was quite intriguing to me!
Mainly because I've always felt that, in the majority of the strips — especially the ones before the introduction of Jade (yes, that's Purple's real name) in #46 — the females were either the butt of the intended joke, the object of ridicule, or depicted as a bitch or a liar or a slut or something along those lines. Not that I hate women or feel a need for them to be constantly ridiculed (in truth, it's just one or two specific women, but that's not the point). I just, you know, thought that I was always relating to a more male audience since that's my personal perspective.
I mean, I'm not unwelcoming to the female audience as well, it just came as a bit of a surprise!
I suppose I'm that closed-minded that I've never taken the time to look at relationships from a female point of view. But since I was 15 I have been in four serious “relationships” (quoted, because only two of them were “official”) and all of them ended terribly. Which doesn't leave me much of a perspective to go on aside from the stereotypical “THAT BITCH WAS A HO” standpoint.
What's the plural of “ho”, anyway? Hos? Ho's? Hoes? This is going to bug me all day. 
So if you're a female, and you've wasted the few minutes it took to read this, tell me: Why do you read CUEK?

You want to know why I read CUEK? Because it's hilarious. It's bitingly vicious, wonderfully bitter, and honest. You might be surprised to realize girls have to deal with a lot of the same issues as men in relationships. We also have our fair share of psycho exes. We pine after those who have left us (in my experience, we do that more often than men). We get caught in cycles of pain and stupidity all in the name of “love”.
But, in all seriousness, I read the comic because it's hilarious and fits my sense of humor perfectly. Keep up the good work!

Except for one minor point…
I never thought Frank or Zeke were meant to be taken seriously. I honestly feel bad for them because of the crap you put them through. Maybe i misinterpreted what you were trying to do with them.
When i read the comic, i get the idea that you are just cracking on males for being stupid, romantic, and in search of something that doesn't exist, aka: Zeke- the poor misguided idiot.
As for Frank, he just seems to not understand at all. You make Frank look like a psycho that all females know is buried somewhere inside of everyman. So i don't think you're making the females look bad, bud. You're making you guys look stupid.
 You know i'll continue to be a huge supporter because you're awesome. And i guess i'll try to grasp the comic from your standpoint because up until now, i have been missing it. Whoops…

I read this comic because of the illustrated FML you did a few weeks ago. I thought it was good, so I visited your site, read through the comic, and liked that as well. Even thought you do often portray your female characters as being slutty or bitchy, the portrayal reminds me of girls at my own school. As someone said before me, it's all true. So, yes, I will continue reading Cheer Up Emo Kid because I enjoy reading it- I am far from turned off what you fear comes off as sexism.

I read CUEK because it takes a slightly different perspective than most comics of the like. I really enjoy Frank and Zeke and Jade and all their hilarious experiences. It is, good sir, pure genius.

What first got me started was your illustrated FML, then when I came here to check it out I thought “This is fuckin' awesome!”
I like your weird sense of humor and I don't really care if females have been the butt of a lot of the jokes. I'm able to laugh at myself and I will admit I can be a mega-bitch.
Other than that, I agree with the first girl who responded.

Sorry to have posted two times in a row, but to answer your other question, the plural of ho is hos.
It was bugging me too so I had to look it up and it seems many people have come to the conclusion that hos is indeed correct.

Wow.
This is a bit overwhelming!
I'm glad that you ladies enjoy the strip. No, scratch that, elated. Because out of all the people I've considered ever offending, I always thought females would be at the top of the list. But now I know that's not true! (Now it's just Mexicans! Despite the fact that the point of that particular strip was to highlight Frank's less-than-appealing attributes. I guess I pulled it off incorrectly, because I don't really see myself as a racist.)
cupcake_ninja, what you said about cracking on males for being stupid — that's actually quite true! One of the main messages I'm trying to deliver is the ability to laugh at one's self, especially after experiencing something emotionally traumatic.
I guess the purpose of this post was to alleviate my fears that people wouldn't understand the humor (I've been bitched at more than once for several strips, from guys, girls, and Mexicans alike).
NocensLupus, the bit you mentioned about honesty — YES! Thank you! One of the things that irks me about the more popular webcomics of today is the fact that they're always dumbed down to certain extents to allow for broader audiences (a.k.a. children). They bleep out words, they don't touch certain topics, they uphold standards set by society (i.e. older characters not allowing under-21 characters to drink, WTF?). I don't like that at all. Not that it's fake, but it's just not the world that I know, where nobody is racist, every relationship is perfect, everyone follows the rules, the main character always succeeds — the list goes on.

Hmm, I dunno about that, doesn't really matter which side of the humor it is, male or female. We all have our bad days and bad experiences, and we can all relate from whatever planet you come from. CUEK is honest and real and that's what I appreciate about it.  It keeps reminding me that how reality sucks is part of how the world turns. You just have to know how to laugh it off.

I think you're dissing both genders but in a weird funny way that I enjoy reading.
The guys are mean dumbasses and the girls are slutty and bitchy. Some classic stereotypes.
Although there are people like that so its not too far from the truth about young people out there.
I've been hanging out more with the boys cause I'm getting sick of how bitchy the girls can get but I still have a couple of girl friends.

I’m a girl, and Mexican, and I don’t think it’s offensive at all! I know it’s a joke, and I really like that I can laugh at myself. It has a good, witty humor that’s hard to find sometimes.
To be honest, I could care less about what the actual content is, whether it’s offensive or not, as long as I laugh.
